Mexico operates one of the most advanced electronic invoicing regimes worldwide. The CFDI 4.0 digital tax receipt system has been mandatory since January 1, 2022 across all sectors. All invoices must be pre‑validated in real-time through an Authorized Certification Provider (PAC) before being issued, integrating issuance, tax reporting, and digital archiving effectively.

Tax authority
Servicio de Administración Tributaria (SAT); issues certificate of digital seal (CSD) and accredits PAC providers.
Archiving period
Mandatory 5 years retention by both supplier and receiver; digital storage permitted.
E-signature
Mandatory CSD (Certificado de Sello Digital) and digital stamp; PAC applies final validation.
Regulation
Law and SAT reforms since 2014; CFDI 4.0 mandated as of January 2022; grace period concluded March 2023
