Belgium announces a three-month grace period for businesses facing challenges with the January 2026 e-invoicing mandate, allowing additional time to comply without penalties.

Belgium

Originally, the e-invoicing mandate was to apply uniformly to all Belgian taxpayers, but FPS Finance acknowledged that the operational shift could create challenges for businesses. The grace period will allow companies more time to meet the new requirements without facing penalties.

Key Details:

  1. The grace period will cover businesses that have made adequate implementation efforts but are still facing technical challenges, such as:
  • Companies are unable to send/receive structured e-invoices due to technical limitations (e.g., issues with third-party solutions or self-billing transactions).
  • Companies that cannot yet issue valid electronic invoices due to system incompatibilities.

2. No penalties will be imposed on businesses struggling to comply within the first three months of 2026, provided they are making good-faith efforts to implement the system.

FPS Finance clarified that this grace period is not an extension of the mandate and companies should complete preparations as soon as possible to avoid delays in compliance.
