Singapore Government Begins Sending E-Invoices via the Peppol Network
Singapore government agencies begin sending e-invoices via Peppol InvoiceNow, enabling businesses to automate inbound invoicing and reduce processing costs.
The Singapore government has started issuing electronic invoices through the Peppol Network, known locally as InvoiceNow. This enables Singapore-based businesses connected to Peppol to receive e-invoices directly from government agencies, reducing processing time and operational costs.
The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) confirmed it is working with key public sector agencies including Housing and Development Board (HDB), Jurong Town Corporation (JTC), and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to enable them to send e-invoices to corporate customers via InvoiceNow.
According to IMDA, these three agencies account for around 70 percent of outbound public sector invoices in Singapore. This means private businesses can now benefit from Peppol not only when invoicing the government, but also when receiving invoices from it, improving inbound invoice automation.
It is also worth noting that since January 2020, contracting authorities using the Vendors@Gov platform have been able to receive Peppol e-invoices from suppliers, marking a steady expansion of e-invoicing adoption across the public sector.
Businesses that have not yet enabled Peppol or InvoiceNow connectivity are encouraged to do so, as standardized and automated invoicing is becoming the default for interactions with government entities in Singapore.
