What is the difference between an e-Invoice and a traditional invoice?
Table of Contents
A traditional invoice is commonly issued as a PDF, printed document, or other business document exchanged directly between parties. A Malaysian e-Invoice is structured transaction data submitted for validation through the LHDN/HASiL framework. A PDF copy by itself does not necessarily meet the requirements for a validated e-Invoice.
Businesses may still use a readable invoice representation when communicating with customers, but the underlying e-Invoice data must comply with the prescribed process where the mandate applies.
Key points
- A PDF or printed invoice is not automatically a validated e-Invoice.
- The e-Invoice uses structured data and prescribed fields.
- The data is submitted for validation through MyInvois services.
- Validation results and the UUID support identification of the e-Invoice.
- The business should distinguish the invoice representation from the validated data record.
