The Australian Government has confirmed additional funding to enhance the national e-invoicing framework as part of its broader anti-scam strategy.

On 14 May 2024, the Government released the 2024–25 Federal Budget, which includes funding under the AUD 67.5 million Fighting Scams package.

Investment to Support Secure E-Invoicing

A key component of the package is an AUD 23.3 million investment over four years to support the Australian Taxation Office in maintaining and strengthening Australia’s secure e-invoicing network.

The funding recognizes that structured e-invoicing:

  • Reduces invoice fraud risks
  • Improves business payment security
  • Enhances data integrity
  • Supports faster and more reliable transactions

Part of a Broader Anti-Scam Strategy

The investment marks the next phase of Australia’s efforts to combat cybercrime and invoice fraud targeting businesses. By reinforcing the security and resilience of the Peppol-based e-invoicing infrastructure, the Government aims to protect businesses from impersonation scams and payment redirection attacks.

Long-Term Digital Infrastructure Commitment

Beyond fraud prevention, the funding underscores Australia’s continued commitment to digital trade infrastructure and secure electronic business processes.

As adoption grows across public and private sectors, maintaining a robust and trusted e-invoicing ecosystem remains central to Australia’s digital economy strategy.
