The Oman Tax Authority (OTA) is advancing its "Fawtara" e-invoicing initiative, confirming a strategic two-year implementation plan. The rollout will begin with a pilot phase in August 2026, leading to a full mandate by August 2028.

A key feature of the system is the 5-corner model, which mandates that all invoices be cleared through OTA-accredited Service Providers. This framework is designed to enhance fiscal transparency and enable real-time reporting for the authority.

The OTA has already engaged with the 100 companies selected for the initial pilot, marking a critical step toward nationwide adoption. Businesses are advised to monitor official OTA channels for upcoming technical specifications and prepare for this significant digital shift.

Timeline:

Nov 2025: The government will publish the technical rules.

Dec 2025: They will announce how companies can become approved Service Providers and start holding training workshops.

Feb-May 2026: The tools for developers and providers are built and approved.

Aug 2026: The test phase begins with the first 100 companies.

Aug 2028: The system is expected to be fully rolled out to all businesses.
