Malaysia’s National E-Invoicing Program Takes a Major Step Forward
Malaysia advances its national e-invoicing program as MDEC and LHDNM sign an MoU, confirming Peppol as the preferred framework and signaling future CTC adoption.
Malaysia has made further progress toward implementing a nationwide e-invoicing framework by establishing strategic collaborations between government agencies and private sector participants.
On 25 October, the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDNM). The signing was witnessed by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia, formalizing collaboration on Malaysia’s National E-Invoicing Initiative.
As previously announced, Malaysia intends to introduce e-invoicing as part of its tax digitalization strategy. With the MoU now in place, the structure of the national framework is becoming clearer.
To support businesses, including SMEs, in reducing compliance costs and improving operational efficiency, the initiative is expected to adopt the Peppol framework as its preferred interoperability standard. In the longer term, a CTC model is anticipated to follow e-invoicing adoption, enabling real-time tax controls.
