The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM) has released an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) version 1.0 and revised e-invoicing guidelines to support taxpayer readiness for Malaysia’s upcoming countrywide e-invoicing mandate.

On 6 April 2024, IRBM published the following updated documents:

  • Software Development Kit (SDK) Version 1.0
  • E-Invoice Guideline Version 2.3
  • E-Invoice Specific Guideline Version 2.1

Key Updates in SDK Version 1.0

SDK 1.0 introduces several technical enhancements and clarifications, including:

  • Updates to validation rules and technical documentation
  • Revisions to API documentation
  • New data elements, including additional codes and tax exemption fields at the invoice and invoice line levels
  • Guidance on digital signature creation and validation
  • Clarifications related to document types, currency exchange rates, file size limits, and mathematical calculations

These updates are intended to improve system integration accuracy and reduce implementation issues for API-based submissions.

Guideline Updates

The revised e-invoice guidelines focus primarily on improving clarity and usability. Updates include rewording of certain provisions, removal of outdated references, and editorial changes aimed at helping businesses better understand compliance and implementation requirements.

Together, these updates provide both technical and operational clarity as Malaysia progresses toward mandatory e-invoicing under the MyInvois system.
